Teeth-Staining Treatment

What causes teeth staining? – There are many factors that can contribute to tooth staining. Some of the reasons are listed below:

  • Foods/Drinks: Coffee, tea, wines and intensely coloured foods.
  • Smoking: cigatettes or chewing tobacco.
  • Poor dental hygiene: Inadequate brushing and flossing.
  • Ageing: As you get older the outer layer of enamel on your teeth wears away. Furthermore the older you get the more tartar and stains accumulate on your teeth causing them to darker and discolour.

How does the EMS Air Flow machine work?

A powerfully controlled jet of water, air and fine powder not only polishes all the surfaces of a tooth, but removes plaque, discolouration and soft deposits as well as reaching deep under the gum.

Water is heated for your comfort in the EMS machine, this is a fast non-invasive method of cleaning. Air polishing powders have different flavours such as spearmint to make the treatment experience even more pleasant.

It is great for patient comfort and gives you a deeper more efficient clean. Studies have shown that air polishing is over three times faster at removing stains and plaque than traditional polish with paste.

Smokers Clean & Stain Removal

Many people do not realise the damage that smoking does to their mouth, teeth and gums. Smoking can lead to many oral issues including: tooth staining, tooth loss, gum disease and in more severe cases mouth cancer. Why are my teeth stained? – One of the effects of smoking is staining on the teeth due to the nicotine and tar in the tobacco. It can make your teeth yellow in a very short time, and heavy smokers often complain that their teeth are almost brown after years of smoking.

How will smoking affect my gums and teeth?

People who smoke are more likely to produce bacterial plaque, which leads to gum disease. The gums are affected because smoking kills the good bacteria.

How often should I visit my dentist?

It is important that you visit your dental team on a regular basis for a normal check-up and a full mouth examination so that any conditions can be spotted early. People who smoke are more likely to have stained teeth, and therefore may need appointments more often with the dental hygienist.
